Blog 10: Interview 2 Reflection

ASPCA is an organization that helps all sorts of care centers
(my care center is one of them)

1. Please explain how you are spending your mentorship time (Is it at a workplace or somewhere else?  Are you shadowing?  Are you able to do tasks that are meaningfully related to the topic?  If so, what?  Are there other people who are experts in the location?  Etc...)
I do my mentorship/volunteering at a animal care center. I am not shadowing as much. I usually work on my own but I do shadow the kennel officers at the care center. This mentorship/volunteer actually does help with a part of my research but not all. Most of the people at the care center are not really experts by doing research and schooling. They learn by experience. The reason they learn from experience, is because you can't really learn by just doing research. One is able to research all they like about a dog but it wouldn't be as useful as learning hands on.

2.  How did you find your mentor?  How did you convince this person to help you?
When I would volunteer we would spend a lot of time with the kennel officers. So I asked one of them to help me with my project. His name is Jaime Ramos, he is very kind and helpful when it comes to helping the volunteers.

3. How would you rate your comfort level with your mentor at this point in your relationship?  How does this relate to the time you've spent so far at mentorship/with this person
I actually got a bit more comfortable with my mentor when I did my interview. In person I don't really spend as much time as I would like because he has other things that he is busy with. But if I need help or if I want to know something I would go to him and ask.
ASPCA travels around Los Angeles to do things like free
spay and neutering dogs and cats

4. What went well in this interview?  Why do you think so?  What do you still need to improve?  How do you know?  How will you go about it?
The thing that went well in this interview is that I got to know my mentor a bit more and I am a bit more comfortable with him. I think I'm not sure if he is completely comfortable as I am. I think so because I got to know more about his personal life and why he does the things he does.

Blog 9 - Advisory Prep 3

1. State whether or not you currently have a mentor, and what the status of your interview is with that person (I have completed the interview, I have scheduled the interview, I have not scheduled the interview, etc).
I currently do not have a mentor because my previous mentor just disappeared with out letting me know. I'm not sure exactly where he went but hope the best for him. But I know who I plan on interviewing, I also think they might be my future mentor since I spend so much time working with them.
                  2. At this point, your research is probably guiding your studies toward more specific areas within your topic.  Name the area or two you find most promising and explain your reasons.
Actually I just started a new topic so I am not completely sure what I want to specifically research about right now. But I am sure that it will come soon.

3. What kinds of sources do you think will help you in the next month to gain more research depth?  Where will you go to get them?
I feel like the library will provided helpful sources. Some books and maybe videos etc. I feel that books provide a different point of view, rather than articles.

4. Write down a possible EQ.  Please don't worry about wording other than ensuring that it provides the option for multiple correct answers.  At this point, the senior team is most interested in understanding your thought process. What is significant to shelter care?

Blog 8: Independent Component 1 Proposal

1. Describe in detail what you plan to do for your 30 hours.
What I plan on doing is taking part in various pet adoptions that my shelter host. I don't only have to do it for my shelter I can also look for other pet adoptions that other shelters host. Pet adoptions can last for different amounts of time. For example, I am helping out in a pet adoption this Saturday and Sunday for about more than 15 hours. What I will be doing is help set up the adopt, help bring in the dog to the location of the event, provide information about the dogs, a bit of paper work, help maintain the area clean, and cleaning up. I'm sure I will be doing more than I listed because there is always something to do.

2. Discuss how or what you will do to meet the expectations of showing 30 hours of evidence.
What I can do to show that I did the 30 hours of service by one taking pictures. Another way I can show my evidence by getting flyers, papers, etc. I can also film videos of the events and I can edit them to make it sort of like a short film.

3. Explain how or what you will be doing to help you explore your topic in more depth.
These pet adoptions I know for a fact show me how dogs react in a totally different environment. But I will also get to see more human to dog interaction and how it effects them. This will not only show me more about dog behavior, it shows me how shelters work during pet adoptions (like how do they get people to adopt dogs and cats?!).

4. Update your Senior Project log
I will be updating my Senior Project log after every pet adoption I do. I will try to be as consistent as I can.
