Blog 6 - Advisory Prep

These are some of the dogs I handled in the shelter
1. What has worked well for you concerning senior project this year?  What has made it a positive experience for you?
Well I am going to be a volunteer soon, at the Baldwin park animal care center. This was the only thing that want as planned. But this was a positive experience because even though I am not doing what I wanted I am still gaining more knowledge about dogs.

2. What are you finding difficult concerning senior project?  How can you adapt to make that portion work better for you?  How might the senior team help?
Thing I finding most difficult is trying to find a mentor for dog training. The reason trainers don't wouldn't want to be my mentors is because they are afraid that dogs might try to bite. Another difficult thing would be trying to come up with an essential question for my topic

Blog 5 - Interview 1 Reflection

Click here to listen to the interview audio

1. What is the most important thing I learned from the interview?  Is there anything I would do differently for other interviews?
The most important thing I learned was, resources that you read can teach you one thing and experience can teach you something way different. I actually wouldn't change anything for the other interviews. The first interview was actually pretty good because we took our time and I asked follow up questions (kinda).

2. Did I get additional resources and contacts?  What is the most useful?  Why?
This was one of the dogs that was talked about in the interview
I actually did get addition contacts but i didn't really get any sources. I feel like the contacts will actually be useful for my topic. I think they will help me because they know a bit more about dog behavior than my interviewee.

3. What makes my interviewee qualified to help me?
My interviewee was qualified to help me because he has worked at the shelter. So if he has work at the shelter for so long I would assumed he knows a lot about dog behavior. When I volunteer at the shelter he actually points out the dogs behaviors and how to handle the dogs.

Blog 4 - House Advisory Prep 1

Small steps can make a difference sometimes
Happy Dog, Happy Owner :)
Enjoy your life once in a while

Write a short explanation of what you are hoping to accomplish through your senior project topic.

One thing I would like to accomplish during senior project is to be able to help as many dogs and dog owners as I can. The way I can accomplish this by helping dogs that are in need of help (have behavior problems). So by helping the dog you can make them a happy dog, and a happy dog makes a happy owner. Another thing I would like to accomplish is to help as many dogs/animals in the animal shelter. I know these accomplish may not mean that much to others but little things like this can actually make a difference. Dogs can actually play a big role in your life. They teach us things we often forget later on in life, like- enjoying life.

Blog 2 - Summer Mentorship

During the summer I did my mentorship at the gym with my personal trainer. This was a picture of the first day I went to do my mentorship.I would also work out with my mentor at home, when we didn't work out at the gym.

I actually thought about doing my mentorship on health and fitness.

1. List the contact name, phone number, and organization of the person with whom you volunteered.

The name of my mentor and personal trainer is Christian Velez. His phone number is (626) 549-8412. My mentor is a personal trainer at Spartan Fitness.

2. What qualified this person as an expert in your topic choice?

My mentor helps me understand the diet that in need to maintain my healthy life. He also teaches me Intense works out that also help me maintain my healthy life style.

3. List three questions for further exploration now that you've completed your summer hours.

Question 1: Is it necessary to eat or drinking protein after a work out?
Question 2: What should one eat before and after one works out? And what exactly should they eat?
Question 3: When will you start seeing results of the training that you have done?

4. What is the most important thing you gained from this experience? Why?

Well I actually learned that maintaining a healthy life style can sometimes be quite difficult at times because not all people have money or time to work out at the gym; not everyone has money to buy all the healthy and fresh produce to consume. The reason I thought of switching to this topic was because it seemed interesting to learn about health.

5. What is your senior project topic going to be?  How did mentorship help you make your decision?  Please explain

I thinking I am just going to stick with dog training or dog behavior. My mentorship help me narrow my decision because I was actually interested in health and fitness during the summer. But I definitely learned that this topic isn't for me because it requires so much time, dedication, and motivation to maintain a healthy life style. I rather use my time and dedication to a cause that helps others.

Blog 1: Senior Final Lesson/Interview Reflections

Dog training

Nursing

1.  What three lessons were most helpful for you to see, and why?
The three lessons that were most helpful to me were the Clinical Psychology, Preschool Special Education, and Cardiology. I felt that I learned the most from these lesson because the presentations were actually pretty interesting. I felt that presenters were actually into their topics, whereas other peoples were dry and boring.

2. List one thing that you learned about the senior project in interviews that will help you get off to a good start?
One thing I learned was not to procrastinate as much. If you procrastinate on Senior Project you will start to fall behind. Then you will have so much work that it will be come so stressful for you.
3. What topic(s) are you considering, and why?
The topics that I am considering at the moment is Dog Training or Nursing.

4. What EQ do you think might be interesting to consider in guiding a project like this? (Please don't worry about any sort of formula...we want this question to come from your genuine interest).
Dog Training: What are some ways a dog can be successfully trained?
Nursing: What are some ways nurse can help and care for a patient?
5. What are some ideas you have about finding summer mentorship?
Dog Training: I was think of searching for places or people that I know that train dogs. For example Petco or Petmart
Nursing: I was think of applying for Pomona Hospital or some hospitals around me d me.
